Stock market today: Indian equity benchmark indices, BSE Sensex and Nifty50, opened flat in trade on Wednesday. While BSE Sensex was above 80,000, Nifty50 was near 24,180. At 9:17 AM, BSE Sensex was trading at 80,009.24, up 5 points or 0.065%. Nifty50 was at 24,186.70, down 8 points or 0.032%.
The domestic markets gave up initial gains on Tuesday following a two-day upward movement amid unfavourable global indicators. A positive development emerged as FIIs became purchasers after persistent selling across 38 trading sessions. However, experts indicate that a definitive shift in FII behaviour requires sustained buying patterns.
“Going ahead the market is likely to consolidate in a broader range in absence of any major trigger in near term, but stock/sector specific action is likely to continue,” said Siddhartha Khemka, Head – Research, Wealth Management, Motilal Oswal.
The current price movement indicates a temporary halt in the upward trajectory towards 24,770 – 24,800, says Jatin Gedia of Sharekhan. He suggests considering minor declines towards 24,070 – 24,050 as purchasing opportunities.
US equities finished higher on Tuesday, with technology shares recovering as investors evaluated Trump’s trade policies and Federal Reserve minutes.
Asian equities opened cautiously following Trump’s tariff announcements. Sydney showed gains whilst Tokyo and Seoul declined. US equity futures remained stable after S&P 500’s seventh consecutive rise, achieving its 52nd record this year.
FPIs invested Rs 1,157 crore net on Tuesday, while DIIs sold Rs 1,910 crore worth shares.
