Internship scheme: 193 companies post over 90,000 slots on portal

NEW DELHI: About 193 companies, ranging from Reliance Industries, Larsen & Toubro, Maruti Suzuki, Jubilant FoodWorks and Eicher Motors, have offered over 90,000 internships through the PM Internship scheme portal, which opens to applicants on Oct 12 evening.
As of Friday, 90,849 internship opportunities have been posted by 193 companies, including major private sector players, sources said.So far, around 200 companies have registered with the ministry of corporate affairs, which is managing the scheme targeting over 1.2 lakh internships during the current financial year. This is a pilot project and based on the learnings, MCA will finalise the scheme for Cabinet approval to enhance the coverage.
The internships are spread across 24 sectors, with the greatest share available in the oil, gas & energy sector, followed by travel and hospitality, automotives, banking and financial Services, etc, ministry of corporate affairs sources said.
Internships are available in over 20 fields, including operations management, production & manufacturing, maintenance, sales & marketing and other segments. The opportunities are spread across the country and are available in 737 districts, spread over 37 states and Union Territories.
Finance minister announced the scheme in the July Budget and aims to provide internships to one crore youth as part of a strategy to bridge the skill gap.
