Housing Starts Down 14.6% Year-Over-year

The U.S. government is reporting that privately‐owned housing starts in November, 2024 were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1,289,000, which is 1.8% lower than October’s revised number and is 14.6% lower than one year ago.  November’s rate for units in buildings with five units or more was 264k.  Privately‐owned housing units authorized by building permits in November were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1,505,000, which is 6.1% higher than October’s revised number and is 0.2% lower than one year ago.  Authorizations of units in buildings with five units or more were at a rate of 481k in November.
