Housing Starts & Building Permits Down Again in October

census bureau logoThe U.S. government is reporting that privately‐owned housing starts in October, 2024 were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1,311,000, which is 3.1% lower than September’s revised number and is 4% lower than one year ago.  October’s rate for units in buildings with five units or more was 326k.  Privately‐owned housing units authorized by building permits in October were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1,416,000, which is 0.6% lower than September’s revised number and is 7.7% lower than one year ago.  Authorizations of units in buildings with five units or more were at a rate of 393k in October.
