The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) issues a comprehensive state and region-specific holiday calendar annually.
During official holidays, customers can perform both monetary and non-monetary transactions through digital channels including Internet banking, SMS banking, and WhatsApp banking facilities. To utilise these remote banking services, clients must complete the necessary registration process beforehand.
The RBI categorises bank holidays under two main sections: the Negotiable Instruments Act Holiday, and Banks’ Closure of Accounts.

Banks are open on January 4, 2025, as it is the first Saturday of the month. Customers should note that banks will operate on every first, third, and fifth (if applicable) Saturday unless there is a designated holiday.
The January 2025 bank holidays include New Year’s Day/Loosong/Namsoong, Loosong/Namsoong/New Year Celebration, Sri Guru Gobind Singh’s Birthday, Missionary Day/Imoinu Iratpa, Makar Sankranti/Uttarayana Punyakala/Pongal/Maghe Sankranti/Magh Bihu/Birthday of Hazarat Ali, Thiruvalluvar Day, Uzhavar Thirunal, and Birthday of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose/Vir Surendrasai Jayanti, with specific observances varying by region.

Several regions including Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Gangtok, Guwahati, Hyderabad (Andhra Pradesh), Hyderabad (Telangana), Itanagar, Kanpur and Lucknow will have bank closures on January 14, 2025, for Makar Sankranti/Uttarayana Punyakala/Pongal/Maghe Sankranti/Magh Bihu/Birthday of Hazarat Ali.
Chennai banks will observe two consecutive holidays: January 15, 2025, for Thiruvalluvar Day, followed by Uzhavar Thirunal on January 16, 2025.
On January 23, 2025, banks in Agartala, Bhubaneswar and Kolkata will remain closed to commemorate the birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and Vir Surendrasai Jayanti.
